2022 Syrah
Syrah - Our journey into light Barossa Syrah continues. We've picked quite early here again, thrown a lot of whole-bunch at this wine and treated it much the same as the first two. We're in the green zone here with a very zippy crunchy Syrah. The fruit is from some pretty heavy dark black clays on the Valley floor, so we get serious colour from very minimal extraction. It does not taste how it looks though, light plush mouthfeel with crunch and tannin for days. Will suit some time in the cellar too.
All wines are basket-pressed to seasoned oak for fruit purity, and bottled early to retain a sense of freshness and prettiness.
“In the winery, we hand-tend to every ferment. Every ferment is small. We basket press all wines. We use old oak and let our red wines go through natural malolactic fermentation. All of our red wines stay on lees until just prior to bottling, usually just prior to summer in the same year. We bottle, cork, hand label and wax every bottle ourselves. True control from vine to glass and a true labour of love. We do not add sulphur, bar a touch pre-bottling. The resulting wines are light, naturally balanced and what we love to drink.”
