2022 OV Grenache
OV Grenache - This is one of our favourite wines every year. We tend to a small 90 yr old planting West of Nuri. This wine sees 75% whole bunch with the remainder whole berry. Minimal punch downs, and is mostly intracellular in fermentation. We're aiming for lightweight, fine chalky tannin with pretty fruit concentration.
One change we made this year was to leave the wine on skins under co2 for a prolonged period of time. This has provided much more structure, perfume nose, and fruit concentration whilst still staying very light, and very fine. We are aiming for prettiness here, and I feel with learning from this planting and what these BV old vines are capable of, we're getting this wine bang on what we are after.
“In the winery, we hand-tend to every ferment. Every ferment is small. We basket press all wines. We use old oak and let our red wines go through natural malolactic fermentation. All of our red wines stay on lees until just prior to bottling, usually just prior to summer in the same year. We bottle, cork, hand label and wax every bottle ourselves. True control from vine to glass and a true labour of love. We do not add sulphur, bar a touch pre-bottling. The resulting wines are light, naturally balanced and what we love to drink.”
