2021 Grenache
Nouveau style with traditional richness.
Deep rubies and garnets, very bright in the glass. Quite a ripe and complex aromatic, lifted spices over light cherries and a backbone showing lighter French oak influences. A briary blackberry front palate, leading to a spicy mid-weighted palate showing freshening tannins and a bright acid balance.
Minimal sulphur
The 2021 Ben Murray Grenache is the product of an even and moderate growing and ripening season in what has now been seen as a year to produce perfumed and high-quality wines from the Barossa region. Ben Murray has sourced the Grenache for many years from Marananga Vineyards that are up to and over 100 years old. The vines produced ripe fruit from mid-March and the resulting wine is a classic expression of the popular Grenache style.
Grapes harvested at ripeness, then crushed and fermented in open fermenters, before being cap plunged twice daily, in small fermenters. Following fermenting to dryness, the wine was left in contact with the must for an additional 22 days. Pressed and racked for maturation for 14 months, in a mix of new and old French and American oak barrels.
