Doña Luisa 2020 Millacoya País Rosado
2020 Millacoya Rosado de Pais. 9.6 alc. No Adds. 24LUC
Grapes were hand picked from a tiny parcel, destemmed, and 200lts of juice was taken for the 'white' and the remainder stayed on skins for 3 days to make this rosé. Grapes were then hand pressed (Bastian and Michelle literally squeezed the juice from the grapes with their hands), they got 400lts out. Australia got 30 cases and the rest was home consumed.
Millacoya is the original Mapuche denomination for the region where the vineyard lies (now called Nacimiento). The Spanish then named the region Santa Cruz de Coya, a name lost after they were dispelled by the victorious Mapuche.
Milla is the Mapudungun word for Gold, Coya the Quechua word meaning Princess. The label depicts a Mapuche princess, a timely evocation of the spirit fuelling today's plight for justice and equality amongst Chile's original and multiple peoples.
