Doña Luisa 2018 Ladrón de Uvas País
The family's flagship red 'Ladrón de Uvas' is fully destemmed and open fermented in the family's original lagar : a 150 yr-old, 5000 litre foudre made of raulí. Raulí is Chile's native beechwood from which all wine vessels were made until the arrival of French oak. It's very hard to find lagar that have been in continuous use since inception. This is truly historic wine.
Juicy bright berries, both red and black fruits, earthy-savouriness, rustic tannins, structured and smashable. This is a wonderful wine to understand País from fertile volcanic soils vinified in traditional Raulí. The family has been making this wine from these exact vines for the last 250 years. Minimal sulfur added.
Pato Cea and son Bastian (and his partner Michelle) are 7th and 8th generation growers.
Organic practices, no-till, unirrigated bush vines of País, 250 year old vines, original rootstock. Deep volcanic black sand on the banks of the river Bio Bio.
The unique mix of alluvial deposits and deep volcanic black sand produces a País of unique earthy aroma and crunchy red fruits, and the families unrelenting faithfulness to organic agriculture and traditional vinification makes these wines unmistakably theirs.
